In Depth Review Of Zenfone 3 Max
Display and Looks
Both the ZenFone Max devices were of 5.5 inch in size. But the ZenFone 3 Max comes with a metallic body compared to the plastic body of its earlier version. The ZenFone 3 Max looks way better with its sleek built and well crafted design. The grippy metal finish and the curved edges lend themselves to an excellent in-hand feel. The power and volume keys on the right are a delight to use, and are very ergonomically placed and not too mushy.
You get a white, rectangular slab of a phone with 2.5D glass on the front. The back panel is made of metal and there are two plastic panels at the top and bottom to allow for wireless connectivity. Sunlight legibility is also decent with a max brightness level of 450nits.
Processor and RAM
The ZenFone 3 Max comes with Qualcomm octa core 1.4 GHz processor with Snapdragon 430 chipset. Yes, you read it right. Compare this with 1.2 GHz processor with Snapdragon 615 chipset in the ZenFone Max, the older phone. The Max 3 comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage space compared to 2 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM in the Max. Both the devices can be expanded upto 128 GB using microSD cards.
Where the device performs well is in gaming as the Adreno 505 GPU is quite a solid performer. Casual games like Subway Surfers and Candy Crush are handled with aplomb and even heavy duty titles like Modern Combat 5 and N.O.V.A. 3 perform reasonably without too many dropped frames. Multi-tasking is fine as long as you are doing less intensive tasks.
The ZenFone 3 Max comes with 16 MP rear camera and 8 MP front camera, with features like PDAF, low-light, HDR, laser assisted autofcus etc. These features are becoming standard day by day with all the smartphones incorporating them. Although the performance of the camera still needs to improve in Zenfone Max series, its past version was having nice and decent camera if compared to zenfone 3 max.
The camera performs well in outdoor situations, producing detailed and well balanced images. Just like the ZenFone 3, the camera is more than capable in low light situations and produces clear and crisp images, albeit with a little loss of detail and some noise.
Battery and other Features
Zenfone 3 Max is packed with 4100 mAh battery, the phone lasted more than 32 hours with regular use that includes hundreds of calls, browsing for hours and multimedia play out. Besides, the battery of this phone can be used to charge other smartphones as well, just like a power bank.
Zenfone 3 Max is an amazing device, the 3D curved glass and the metallic back finish gives it a very premium look and feel. The screen resolution is HD quality and very sharp. With a massive battery of 4100mAh one can be assured of a great battery backup. The ZenUI is still the same and hardly any changes were seen. Overall this is a great choice to buy.
